Secondary Curriculum Pathways

Our Secondary Curriculum caters to our students from Years 7 to 12. From Years 7-10, the large majority of our students have carefully selected learning goals outlined in the form of an Individual Education Plan. These plans focus on targeting key skills in English, Mathematics, Personal & Social Capabilities, Critical & Creative Thinking and other specialist areas (including Health & PE, Visual Arts and Music & Dance).

Please refer to the Secondary Curriculum Pathways document below:

2023 JSA Years 7-12 Pathways

Apart from this arrangement, we do provide selected students (working at Foundations level and above) specific access to alternate academic and work-based programs in Years 10 to 12, as follows:

Victorian Pathways Certificate

The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) is a hands-on learning option for students in Years 11 and 12. The VPC gives students practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. A a modified framework of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VPC is an accredited secondary certificate.

The VPC program designed for the Senior Secondary students in their final two years of schooling. In some cases students may commence units in their last 3 years of schooling. VPC compliance is overseen by the Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). The VRQA provides regulations that ensure quality education and training is delivered by the providers it registers in Victoria.

At JSA, VPC is taught at Foundation level; at this level students may be assisted in achieving the learning outcomes by their teachers. VPC is made up of four learning strands:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills
  • Personal Development Skills
  • Work Related Skills
  • Industry Specific Skills

JSA currently offers all units of work for each strand at the foundation level.  Whilst not mandatory, we encourage and offer our students to complete industry-based qualifications, either VET or a school-based apprenticeship (SBAT) to be delivered off site.

Vocational Education and Training

Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs are approved by the VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority) following consultation with schools, industry and training providers. Programs lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

In 2023, JSA provides 5 VET/SBAT courses, including:

  • Certificate II – Music Industries
  • Certificate II – Outdoor Recreation
  • Certificate II – SBAT  Supply Chain Operations
  • Certificate II – SBAT Supply Food Processing
  • Certificate III – SBAT Supply Chain Operations

Depending upon availability, JSA has limited enrolments available at JSA. Priority will be given to students enrolled in the full/part VPC program. Students enrolled in the Pathways Certificate or Year 10 may be offered an enrolment if a position is available.

Certificate of Individual Achievement

For those students working below Foundations level, we offer an individualised learning program tailored to cater to enhancing communication skills, developing personal skills in the home, planning post-school options and engaging their ability to advocate their needs throughout the school and the broader community. These student work towards their Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA) at the completion of their schooling years.

We have designed parent booklets to provide more details about all of our programs, as below:
